Assignment 5- greeting Card Design Part 1

We had to design either an Xmas or/and New Year Greeting Card. Visuals should be simple and should communicate primarily through colours.

For me, I chose to make a Christmas in vertical form (fold left to right). I did not have a specific target group in my mind but I thought my design should be able to suit most categories of people.

What I liked best: Blue

I thought blue is the nicest and can depict the icy coolness of Xmas Winter through its colour as blue is a cool colour. But after class, I realised blue is too common a choice for many people. As i continue developing my final piece, I might change my choice of colour.

Gold

My initial idea was to have it gold until I learnt today that Gold will not be produced with a normal CMYK printer. Hence, it will not be very feasible for me to choose gold. But i liked gold for its glittery effect and unlike cool blue, it gives a shine and glow that can bring out the magical feel of Christmas.

Gold and White background

I changed the background to white as i thought it can make the tree stand out more.

Neon lighting

I had fun exloring how to create neon lighting effects... In this case, it gave the feeling of Xmas decorative lights along Orchard road. I chose vibrant and contrasting colours to make the outline stand out even more against the black background.

Colourful Bits

I think this is a sweet combination of colours. the pink and green are contrasting colours and work well with each other. However, I would have to work on the background as it is too pale to be seen when printed out. I might include bolder colours for the decorative tiny bits of stars so that the whole work can look more colourful.

Merged

I find myself not exploring as many colours as my classmates. Although I already have what I would like in mind, since this assignment is about colours, I thought I should be bolder and explore further especially when the design of my card is quite plain and average. Perhaps colours will spice it up even more.
